The North Harbour Men' s Elite team has won the 2011 Southern Quadrangular at Rarangi Golf Club in Blenheim on the 29th and 30th of November. The team was one of the more younger ones assembled for this elite competition which pits North Harbour against the very strong districts of Wellington, Canterbury and Tasman. However after three rounds of match play North Harbour came away with a trophy after a remarkable effort from the young team.
In the first round a close battle ensued with 2010 national champions Wellington who came away with a 5-3 victory. North Harbour however rebounded in the afternoon against Tasman with a 5-3 victory while Wellington lost to Canterbury 5-3. On Sunday morning North Harbour with some superb play would comfortable beat Canterbury 5.5 to 2.5 while in a shock upset Tasman would defeat Wellington by a margin of 6-2. North Harbour and Canterbury then tied on 2 wins out of the 3 matches but with Harbour winning 13.5 games over the weekend to Canterbury’s 13 the trophy was travelling back up north for the first time since 2008!
Well done to team members Cameron Jones (North Shore), Kevin Budden (Waitemata), James Davis (North Shore), Aaron Garnett (Muriwai), Jason Gulasekharam (North Shore), Anthony Cope (North Shore), Stewart Gray (North Shore) and Harry Yang (Pupuke) as well as elite team manager George Newlove.
